Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

  1. What is a CEU?
    A CEU is a Continuing Education Unit equivalent to ten training hours. Typically state licensing agencies require annual training for teachers and directors which are specified in the state licensing requirements.
  2. Will my state accept your CEUs?
    Certification and state licensing requirements for early childhood educators vary significantly. To find out if Exchange CEUs will be accepted for your requirements, we recommend that you contact your certifying or state licensing agency.
  3. I purchased a CEU. Where is my packet?
    Your CEU packet is delivered to your Exchange account on our website. It is accessible immediately after you place your order. You can retrieve your packet at any time by doing the following:

    1. On the home page of our website, www.childcareexchange.com, click on “Login” in the upper right hand corner.
    2. Enter your e-mail address and password.
    3. Click on My CEUs.
    4. Your packet will be listed here. Click on "Download Packet" to open the PDF file. You need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to open these files. To obtain a free copy of this program, visit http://get.adobe.com/reader/. Once you have opened the file, you can print it or save it to your computer.
    If you have any difficulty accessing your packet, contact us. Be sure to include your full name, email, and address.
  4. I read my packet. How do I take the test?
    The link to your test is accessible through your Exchange account on our website. To take the test:

    1. On the home page of our website, www.childcareexchange.com, click on “Login” in the upper right hand corner.
    2. Enter your e-mail address and password.
    3. Your test link will be listed under My CEUs. Click on the link. You will be brought to the University of Wisconsin – Stout (Stout) website, which hosts the assessment.
    4. You will need to complete the assessment online and then fill out brief contact information to submit to Stout for evaluation and credit.
    5. Upon successful completion of the assessment test, Stout will mail you the CEU Certificate of Completion.
  5. Who do I contact if I am having difficulty with the online exam?

  6. How long do I have to take the test and how many times can I access it?
    The test must be completed within one year of registration and you can only access the test once. It is an open book test and is not timed, but you must complete the test once you access it.
  7. I took the test. When do I find out the results?
    It takes approximately four weeks from the time you take the test for the University of Wisconsin-Stout to grade it and send you the results. If you haven’t received notification within this time frame, contact the University of Wisconsin – Stout at ProfEd@uwstout.edu or (715) 232-2793.

  8. How do I pass the test?
    To pass the test, you must have a minimum score of 80%. If you pass, University of Wisconsin – Stout will send you a certificate of completion along with your proof of one CEU, the equivalent of 10 training hours.
  9. Who do I contact with questions about my certificate?

  10. What happens if I fail the test?
    If you do not complete the test with the required 80% score, the University of Wisconsin-Stout will email you a letter of instructions, helpful hints for passing the test, and a new link for you to retake the test at no additional cost.
  11. How are the courses developed?
    Exchange CEU courses are developed and approved by the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Articles for each course are carefully selected and tailored to meet their requirements for continuing education units. Each assessment test is crafted to ensure that the test taker has read the course material. A minimum score of 80% is required to receive the CEU.
